Hi8:

Hi8 camcorders and tapes are very similar to the 8mm camcorder ranges, however the resolution is alot higher at about 400 horizontal lines.

8mm:

When 8mm tapes first came out, one of the main benefits was that the manufacturers
could produce more compact camcorders.

8mm generally relates to the tape size that fits inside your camcorder. 8mm is roughly the same size as an audio
cassette. 8mm tapes can hold about two hours of video footage.

8mm tapes have a resolution of around 250 horizontal lines with slightly better sound quality than standard VHS tapes.

SP & LP:

SP = Standard Play           LP = Long Play SP

SP & LP are VCR speed settings that control the speed of the tape. Slower speeds produce better quality images.
In SP mode, the tape is moving past the head at 33.35 mm per second. In LP mode, it's 16.7 mm/s.
